Swan Love

This is a sketch for a bigger project. It's a lady making sweet love to a Swan. Totally inspired by Reubens. I love his style and his compositions, check out Fruit Dance if you get a chance. Creepy and awesome stuff.
This project will incorporate Men and Seahorses as well. Guilded frames, silicone cement, and messages of frustration. It'll be huge. And secret. Don't tell ANYONE. That's how secret.

Enjoy.

Joe's Scarecrow

This is also from the trip to Nova Scotia. We stumbled across a bizarre roadside attraction called Joe's Scarecrow. It's basically an open field on Cape Breton Island full of terrifying scarecrows wearing Halloween masks. I would hate to be there alone at night. I think they come alive and eat children.
We met a girl named Elize from Amsterdam on our trip (super cool girl!) and she came with us to this horror show. When she saw this child sized mannequin she gasped and said "Pinnochio's cold dead eyes will offer no solace". Truer words have never been spoken.

Enjoy.

Nova Scotia

Claudia, Michelle and I went to Nova Scotia last week. We had a series of adventures and took tons of photos. I know this isn't supposed to be a personal blog and it should only really be about my illustration/art practice but part of that process is finding inspiration. And man o man was the trip inspiring. These are a select few of the photos I took on my i-phone. I really think the scenery is amazing and will inform the negative space within my illustrations in strange ways. I know that sounds like silly art excuse talk but it's the truth. Anyway, if anyone ever gets the chance to go on a road trip with some good friends I highly recommend it.

Enjoy.

Portrait

Here's a portrait of Roman I drew during an APT shoot. Turned out pretty good....

I just got back from a trip to Nova Scotia. It was awesome, but now I have to get back to work.

Best Buy and Future Shop

I recently completed a project for Best Buy/Future Shop. I worked with James Falloon on this (he's a designer, seems like a cool dude).

The project was to create a cover image and several interior spot illustrations for an employee handbook designed to increase awareness about the benefits packages offered by BB/FS. The coloured image was the original idea. Hot air balloons soaring high to represent the great heights to which BB/FS employees can soar. The big wigs over at BB/FS decided to go with a second idea at the last moment. They thought the second idea was more grounding and included a more personal aspect.

This was a fun project to work on.

Enjoy!
