Applied Arts

So I decided to enter the Applied Arts Illustration contest. And every other illustration contest I can find. I ant to be rid of soul sucking job and draw pictures for a living so this seemed like a decent place to start.

I've only had a couple of pieces published before (Thanks Juxtapoz!) so I figured I'd enter under the "Unpublished" section.

It's really hard to pick favorites!

In the end I went with a series of black and white illustrations I did for a book and the History of Scuba. Fingers crossed.

Super Bowl XLIII

Here's the poster I made for the Super Bowl Party. It's not fantastic but i like it considering all it's for is to paste on the door.

Cardinals vs. Steelers. Gt it? See how the cardinal is sitting on the steel beam? And the Red, Yellow and Blue stars from the Steelers logo are there? Man I'm a genius.

Actually a few people didn't get the steel beam thing. Granted, they were dummies who take steroids... but still. Alex Adcock liked it. He told me so. I'm having his baby.

Flattery will get you everywhere...

This is a drawing I did at work on a scrap of paper that came in a packing box. I left it in the office and then I found out that Brian liked it and decided to colour it. He's also doing some of his photoshopping on it as well. Brian's stuff is pretty durned awesome and you should check his flicker account... I'll post it on my links once I get the address from him.

One day I'll be rich and famous enough that I can hire Brian and others like him to just do my illustrations for me while I sit naked in a solid gold hot tub full of jelly beans. Until then, thanks Brian!

Shake Hands

Here's the Hand shake drawing I was talking about. Hope Y'all like it.

I'm now working on a poster for the Superbowl and eating Oriental flavoured noodles. What the hell does that mean? They taste like East? Noodles are stoopid.

Anyway... look here for superbowl updates if you care for that sort of thing.

Handshakes and Milkshakes

For some reason I spent a long time drawing a handshake. This isn't that drawing. This is the drawing I did while I was drinking a milkshake and watching "The Flesh Eaters".

Maybe I'll post the handshake if I decide there's any point to it at all. For now you get this. Deal with it.

A Quick one

I did an experiment today where I read an article at random on the good 'ol internets and then did an illustration for it as fast as I could. The article was about a Harvard computer professor who started a company that funds other start-up computer companies. He kept referring to his company as a "Hatchery"... which is why the illustration is a computer nerd holding a carton of eggs with other nerds inside. I didn't use my usual pen to draw this so it's not as tight as I usually like. Still for an illustration that took an hour and a half from start to finish... not bad.

in other news, check out my website! It's online as of tonight. Follow my link and then follow the link on the website to this blog for a never ending link there and link back link-a-thon.
(Advenures of LINK was inferior to the Legend of Zelda). Anyway... here's the address:

That's all i got today.

Scuba!

Here's the Scuba illustration I was working on. I guess it's meant to be a page header for an article about the History of Scuba Diving . I think I like it. I did it while watching all 3 Terminator movies back to back. I don't really recommend doing that unless you have something else to distract you. They aren't great movies... well that's not true, the first Terminator is great. The second is OK. The third is... well it's the third movie and it costs $4 on DVD.

There are no Scuba divers in the Terminator movies.

I added an updated version of this illustration. Nothing too special.

That's Better...

So I was very disappointed with my drawing last night. To make up for it, I re-worked an older piece so that it looks way better. It's called "Mama Osaka loves you". It's meant to be an editorial illustration about travel anxiety.

Hope y'all (Claudia I think you're the only one who reads this) like it.

Procrastination Proclamation

Tonight I was going to do an awesome illustration of some SCUBA divers. I had it all worked out and everything. Instead I sent a really long time on-line trying to figure out the best way to get myself a proper website. After many hours of navigating really poorly constructed websites (which is funny cause they're trying to SELL me a website) I finally rented myself a nice official home at

www.grammajones.com

You can go there if you want but it's not very interesting yet. Hopefully by next week there'll be something there to look at.

I still felt that I had to make something so I drew this horrid piece of crap. I don't even know if he's meant to be a cowboy or what. He looks creepy and stupid. I fucked around with the background a lot so in passing it looks sort of vaguely cool but rest assured... it sucks.

Expect better things from me in the near future.

Dangerous Careers!

Here's an illustration about dangerous careers. I ha no reason to do this except that I wanted to draw some peoples heads and this seemed like a reason to do it. Also, my job is very dangerous. I race cars all day while firing guns and knife fighting robots. We're hiring if anyone's interested.... Upon further consideration, I don't like the Firefighter here. I'm gonna re-do or re-place him.

Calendar Art

I was cleaning up my Office today and I came across the 2008 wall calendar. Sometimes I get bored at work... all the time I get bored at work... so I modify the calendar with whatever office supplies happen to be lying around. Here's the two that were salvageable. I'm gonna keep them from no won though because sadly, this is one of the only things that brings me any joy at work. That and the hookers. Mountains of sweet hot hookers.

OuterSpacenBearsies

Here's a few more from my sketch book. I like 'em pretty well. I was gonna fix the X-Files thing tonight but I got carried away playing with my new MacBook. Sadly this post doesn't originate from my cool new toy. I haven't transfered all my files yet. Anyways..... enjoy.

Today I Hate Paint

I like the drawings in this one. I hate the paints and the background. So Boring and ugly. But I guess it fits the Simon & Garfunkel theme. I still don't know why I'm doing that. I think it's funny though. I need to re-do this piece. The red "X" on the road is an important plot element from season one and season seven for all you nerds out there.
