Really old stuff

Here's a couple sketches of mine from about 1986 or 1987. It's a very accurate portrait of my father.

I know I owe the world last weeks Giants image, but with christmas prep and the fact that the giants just kinda suck right now I'm really not that pumped to complete it on time.

Outshined

Here's another doodle that became a finished piece. I like it quite a bit.

I'm probably going to have to put the personal stuff on hold for a while till Christmas is over. I need to use my time to get the shopping/making of presents done.

Love Without Anger

Here;s one that started as a doodle. It's been a while since I had time to do completely personal piece. I really like how it turned out.  The title is from a Devo song. It seemed to fit the image as the pink whatchamhoozies seem to be in love and the devil dogs look as though they're fighting. Or something. I bet that's how Rembrandt described his work to people.  As usual go to www.grammajones.com to see the whole illustration.

Week 13

Check these guys out! It's like they're  a real football team!
Now all they have to do is beat philly and washington!

I... have... faith... in them...?

I'm so not sure that they can do it.

Police Cops!

Here's another new one!

This is for an article about too much police presence in elementary schools in New York. I think it turned out pretty good.

Natural Medicine

This is an illustration for an article about Natural medicine doctors being given the ability to prescribe pharmaceutical drugs to patients (which totally negates the idea of a natural medicine doctor, but that's just my opinion). The reason for this is supposedly to alleviate some of the stresses of Canada's family doctors, to lighten their load a little bit.

I like the way this turned out. The background colouring and the pill flowers in the foreground are my favorites.

Week 12

There was a very tight turnaround for the Giants this week, which we can all use as an excuse for their absolutely pitiful playing.

Denver destroyed them. It was horrible. Eli should give back that "unstoppable" watch.

Week 11

They came back after their biweek to finally get another win. That would be really cool if they earned the win. They were ahead by a bunch then in the fourth they gave up 14 points and had to win in overtime. It was pure luck. I really hope they actually beat the broncos tonight.

I had some difficulty being creative lately due to some lack of work issues and I feel that this illustration suffered as a result. It's not the best but right now its the best I got. Enjoy!

DEVO!

I went to see Devo on monday evening with Claudia. They were amazing. I never thought I'd get to see a Devo show in my lifetime considering the average age of the band is 60 and they haven't toured in years. They put on one of the absolute best shows I've ever seen.

Very cool.

Giants Week 9

1 Point!

It looked like they could actually have won this one. Then they didn't. Oh well. Now they have a week to rest up and then I'm sure they'll start winning again.

As usual go to www.grammajones.com to see the whole illustration.

Enjoy.

Sunk

I've been feeling pretty low lately. Not very creative or intelligent. I find that I keep thinking of the worst possible scenario's playing out and then I have anxiety attacks. Thanks to Claudia and my good 'ol mother for keeping me calm.

No I didn't draw this picture, but it reminds me of how I feel lately.

Here's the first illustration for Illustration Friday.

Giants Weak 8

... get it? Cause they suck right now. So they're "weak". Ha ha ha. I'm so effin funny.

Seriously though, that game was depressingly bad. I think they replaced the giants with a bunch of kids who dressed up as the giants for halloween. THat fat guy from the youtube video must really be crying right now.

Go to www.grammajones.com to see the whole illustration.

Giants Week 7

Big blue lost again. The Cardinals were all over 'em this week. I think it's just a bit of backlash from last weeks loss. They'll be back on top this week against the Eagles... hopefully.

There's only so many ways I can draw birds beating Giants, but Giants beating birds! Man that's an endless cornucopia of visual candy!

Data Drinks!

Here's my kitten going crazy for Steamwhistle! He loves beer!

Giants Week 6

This one's a bit late. A lot has happened this week, not much of it is good... including the fact that the Giants lost to the saints. Apologies for the tardiness.

As usual, go to www.grammajones.com to see the full illustration.

High Praise

I ran into Gary Taxali at work the other day. I met Gary a few years ago at OCAD and since then we've run into each other a few times. He's a really nice guy and he always takes the time to say hi and see what's going on. I mentioned to him that I've been doing illustration work lately (when I met him I was studying film) and he seemed interested. I got the following e-mail from him:

Really cool work!  I like "Hungy as a Horse".
Thx for showing me!

GARY TAXALI

It was pretty succinct but still high praise from an internationally acclaimed illustrator and fine artist. Now I feel endorsed.

Check out Gary's website: www.garytaxali.com to see his work.

Thanks Gary!

Gramma got beat

Here's a photo of me all beat up. So nice of my girlfriend to take a picture rather than call an ambulance.

Kidding! Salini Perera did the make-up for Claudia's photo. Both are amazing.

Bryan and Larry... or vs Larry?

Here's some photos of my bud Bryan creating some abstracts. Read all about the process/reasoning on his blog at caughtincandy.com

On a selfish note, I'm in one of these photos! Living with Bryan was one of the most inspirational things I've ever done, he's a demented genius. Check out his work whenever possible.

Aliens!

Here's part of the poster I did for the Fox Theatre's Alien double bill.

Check out www.grammajones.com for the whole poster and other great things.

Also, go to the FOx! It's the best theatre in town. Seriously. Best.

Giants Week 5

The Giants are on a roll! They killed the Raiders 44 - 7.

My room mate and his brothers/dad went to the game. Kevin said it was cool but a little dull since it was such a blowout.

Whatever, next week the tackle the saints for one of their actual challenges this year. Hopefully they can keep the streak going!

Giants Week 4

The Giants continue their winning streak.

Once again I had to work on Sunday so I didn't watch the game. Well, that's not totally true. I stayed up late on Saturday to go to Nuit Blanche so I slept in pretty late on Sunday. Then I went to work.

Go to www.grammajones.com to see the entire illustration, though you'll have to flip through weeks 1 - 3 first!

Enjoy.

It's Fall and that means Guiness.

These are some illustrations from the Guiness factory that I thought were pretty cool.

Drink up!

Giants Week 3

Here's another GIants illustration. I should be posting more often than this. Sorry.

The Giants destroyed the Bucks this week 24 - 0.

Sadly, I didn't see the game because I had to work.
Ah well...

Giants Week 2

Here's part 2 in the Giants Series.

This week was a tough game as the Cowboys and Giants were neck and neck from the very start. Romo threw a few interceptions, Manning did some dodging that would make Big Ben proud. In the end it came down to a field goal by Tynes.

Good game!

Are we not men?

We are Devo!

Devo is playing a show in November. They'll be doing the entire Q: Are we not men? A: We are Devo! album from start to finish as well as a "Meet and Greet" prior to the start of the show.

Thanks to Boom City for letting me know about this! I'm so excited!

Big Blue, Week 1

This is the first of a 16 part series. There will be an update each week of a new illustration representing what happened in the New York Giants game of the previous week.

In week 1 the Giants were dominating the Redskins until the end of the first half. The Redskins faked a field goal and ran it i for a touchdown. Which was total BS.

Not that it mattered. The Giants still destroyed them.

See the entire illustration on my website at www.grammajones.com

Lets all watch the Giants beat the Cowboys this Sunday! (Except that Tony Romo's my fantasy QB... so maybe the Cowboys could get a few touch downs)

Mishima

I just did an illustration for Yukio Mishima's Temple of the Golden Pavilion.

It's a great book about a schizophrenic monk who believes that the Golden Temple in Kyoto is too beautiful to exist. He also believes that the Temple is responsible for the negative turns his life takes. To solve this problem he burns the Temple to the ground.

No I didn't ruin the book for you. It's based on an actual Monk who did in fact burn most of the Temple to the ground. If you haven't read it then you should.

SpeakEasy Show

My work was selected to be a part of the annual Speak Easy Illustration show this year. It's a one night only show that features 24 illustrators. Apparently there's a lot of applicants for this show so it was pretty cool that my work was selected.

It was a fun night. As usual Claudia's the best cause she stayed there with me all night long and she didn't mind too much when I got frustrated hanging the pictures. The wall I was hanging on was pure plaster and none of the nails would go in the wall.

There was a review of the show on Blog T.O. It was a very general review, which is fair considering how many artists were involved, but my work did get featured in one of the photographs (only 2 other artists were featured) so that made me feel pretty good. Would have been nice to see my name on there though.... whatever. Awesome. People like my work!

Check out the pictures I attached and follow this link to see the review:

This is Data. He'll be living with me from now on. I think he'll probably spend most of his time under the couch.

Doodle

Here's a doodle I did at work. I know it looks like he's eating or... well, blowing, his horn. Whatever. I like it. The boxes that our ticket paper come in have these great square packing cards inside them. I love drawing on them.

Also, Check out Goon's flicker account www.flickr.com/photos/goonone (There's a link on my blog... over there! to your right!) to see his cool work. He coloured one of my comics and it looks amazing. I love the wallpaper he made for the bar.

Sketch Book

I've been a bit lazy. I just got into an illustration show and now I have to focus on the printing and promotion of my work. The good thing is that it's gonna force me to print promo mailers. Anyway, here's two images from my sketch book.

Enjoy!

More Kitty Kats

I finally finished the other cat illustration. It's for an article about the US military using media hype and university benefits to recruit young soldiers. So obviously it has a whole lot of cute kitties playing with each other on it.

Check it out on my website: www.grammajones.com

Kitty Cat Mind Control

Here's one I did about how cats can emit an in-audible hum while purring that makes humans want to feed them. Strange!

I only put a thumbnail here. You'll have to go to  www.grammajones.com to see the full image.

This is an illustration for a short story. It'll be printed in black and white. I don't know what else to say about it. It doesn't seem finished to me.

Here's some comics I did. I could say more about why they're here, but that would be rude.
